Mindy Kaling is embracing color and florals at the 2022 Met Gala.
The Never Have I Ever and Sex Lives of College Girls creator hit the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in a lavender gown with a plunging neckline and thigh-high slit by Prabal Gurung with dramatic shoulder trains with purple floral embellishments.
She complimented the gown with matching silk pumps and glitzy diamond pieces.
As for her beauty look, Mindy Kaling kept the monochrome going with a purple smoky eye, full lashes, and a pretty mauve lip. Her hair was parted down the middle and left to fall down her back.
Kaling didn’t embrace the “Gilded Glamour” theme by wearing a tiara, gloves, or a bustle, but there’s an overall elegance to the look that pays homage to the white tie formalwear of the Gilded Age. Unlike many attendees, Kaling actually wore an American designer to celebrate this year’s Americana moment.
The 2022 Met Gala is being cohosted by Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Regina King, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. The “Gilded Glamour” theme serves as a lavish follow-up to last year’s exhibition, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” which was postponed to September 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Both parts of the “In Amerca: An Anthology of Fashion” exhibit will be open to the public from May 7 until September 5, 2022.
At the 2021 Met Gala, Kaling wore a navy blue gown with a wide black belt by American designer Tory Burch.
According to Vogue, Burch was inspired by 1940s American designer Claire McCardell to create the silk gown with a high-low hemline and deep V-neck. “I admire how Mindy has shaped her own career path and constantly challenges herself,” Burch told Vogue. “She has introduced a new and much-needed perspective through her movies and shows, using humor to break down stereotypes and reframe how South Asians are typically viewed in Western media. That is critical right now and something we need more of.”
