France Fashion Bill Aims to Ban Ultra-Thin Models

PARIS, March 15 (Reuters) – France’s lower house of parliament on Tuesday passed a bill that would ban ultra-thin models from fashion catwalks and advertisements, part of a drive to combat eating disorders and promote a healthier body image. The bill, which still needs to be approved by the upper house Senate before becoming law, would require models to provide a doctor’s certificate of good health, including a body mass index (BMI) of at least 18.5, in order to work. Models with a BMI below 18.5 are considered underweight and at risk of health problems. .
