Emma Raducanu has lost in the first round of Wimbledon in straight sets, going down 6-3, 6-3 to Caroline Garcia. It was the 19-year-old’s first match at Wimbledon since she became the first British woman to win a Grand Slam singles title at the US Open last year. Raducanu struggled with her serve throughout the match, hitting only 47% of first serves in and winning just 54% of points on her first serve. She also made 23 unforced errors compared to Garcia’s 13. Garcia, a former top 5 player, was in control of the match from the start. She broke Raducanu’s serve in the third game and again in the ninth game to take the first set. In the second set, Raducanu broke back in the sixth game after Garcia had served for the match, but Garcia broke back immediately and then held serve to seal the victory. It was a disappointing end to Wimbledon for Raducanu, but she will be hoping to bounce back at the US Open later this year. Garcia will face Martina Trevisan in the second round of Wimbledon on Thursday..
